Struggling with RSS

I guess I am more old fashioned than I thought!
I actually prefer reading newspapers, watching SBS and talking with people as ways of staying informed and engaging with the wide world.
I will continue to grapple with other aspects of receiving constant updates from sites I have tentatively identified as interesting and report back.

Well I'll be #5Flickr'd!!

Man what a time waster Flickr is!! Why do people think that interior shots of their houses are potentially rivetting? And tagging is a real eye opener to how "un-librarians" categorize things. Honestly I thought the whole stream of consciousness approach to interacting with the wide world went out in the 60's! I will concede that it is a great way of sharing photo albums with friends and family but it's all just too messy for me! Someone needs to catalogue it!!

Although I did find this picture amusing! It's part of neon sign in Vegas outside a strip joint!

Great Reads

I read a lot of junior and young adult books, not only for my job but because I really enjoy reading them, and I have finished a couple of great ones lately that are quite different from each other but which I liked equally.
The books were "The Ghost Child" by Sonya Hartnett and "The Palace of Laughter" by Jon Berkley.
I adore the way Sonya Hartnett writes - her prose is exquisite and she is not wasteful with words - and the apparent simplicity of her stories belie the insightful and essential truthfulness of her observations about humankind. That sounds really earnest but when I finish a book of hers I find myself thinking about it days later at unexpected times.
Jon Berkley is an illustrator turned author (rather like D. M. Cornish of "Monster Blood Tattoo" fame) and I must say I was quite impressed with his first effort. The hero character is an orphan, there is an evil circus impressario, villainy, despair, tribes of street kids who inhabit a festering industrial underworld, a tiger, eccentric elderly mentors, and an angel who saves our hero and by doing so becomes earth bound forever. Familiar themes but with a twist.

What? No comments!

Gosh!
I go to all that effort and no one has commented on my insightful and humorous first post.
I am crushed and disappointed.
Does this mean I will actually have to have something of interest to say before some one takes pity and reads what I have to say?
I need a coffee and at least one chocolate biscuit to console myself.
I wasn't warned about the potential for weight gain when I signed up for this whole Learning 2.0 program!

Look who's blogging now!

I am feeling dead impressed with myself right now! A couple of days ago I wasn't even entirely sure what a blog was and now I am the only member of my family to actually have one. Although I must admit I now feel incredibly pressured to come up with something interesting and witty to say. Perhaps I will just talk about the episode of "Summer Heights High" that was on ABC TV last night. I think Chris Lilley is amazingly talented and the characters he has created for this series are so accurate they make me feel uncomfortable. I find myself saying "random" and "povo" in passing conversation!
